Are you scoring 9's and 10's?

Or is your
Working Equitation horse
Bugged by the Jug!

Or any other object you'd like them to stand quietly beside?

  • Horse drifting away?
  • Can't stand still?
  • Distracted?
  •  Imagining Jug Bugs?

In the Debug Your Jug Challenge, you'll go from

My Horse:

  • Knocks over the Jug or bumps the Table.
  • Spooks away from the table so I can’t reach the Jug.
  • Doesn’t stop in time and we pass the Jug.
  •  Can do the obstacle, but doesn’t score very well.

to My Horse:

  • Allows me to choose the line of travel and is careful.
  • Stands close enough I can reach the Jug, and waits for me.
  • Approaches with the correct bend and does balanced transitions.
  • Makes me proud!
  • Follow the checklist so you don't get lost.
  • Discover Your horse's missing skills.
  •  Focus on Improving them!

It seems like it should be an easy obstacle to do.
So why isn't it?

Your horse only needs to be able to:

  • Travel a straight line with correct bend beside a table.
  • Stop precisely where you ask, when you ask.
  • Remain immobile while you (discover how flexible you are) pick up the Jug.
  • And remain immobile again while you (try not to fall off) put it down again.
  • Then be ready to leave at whatever gait  you ask, while staying straight.

Piece of cake right?
And surely you won't need those skills for any other obstacle.

Taking the time to break the Jug down into the smallest tasks,
And having a simple way to track your horses responsiveness and progress,
Is the fastest and easiest way to develop a confident, correct Jug obstacle, with a willing horse.

The Jug challenge includes simplified tasks and instruction,
So you can practice and build on the individual parts rather than feeling overwhelmed,
And avoid pushing your horse and having the quality suffer.

"Who would have thought you could learn riding skills on-line?!

It is possible and it's fun!   The format for the challenge was well laid out with specific suggestions for improvement."
